Pokemon Home's Latest Update Focuses on Mobile Medal Trading

The core of this update revolves around collectable medals featuring the iconic Starter Pokemon trios from each mainline region, from Kanto to Paldea. That means there are currently nine unique medals up for grabs. The Sinnoh medal showcases Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup, while the Johto medal features Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. These medals aren't just for show; they can be traded with friends or gifted using codes.

According to official sources, these medals will be distributed at various Pokemon events and Pokemon Center stores. Keep an eye on the newly added "Medals" tab within the app to track related events and opportunities to snag these coveted items.

The update arrives two months after a previous update that gave players a chance to obtain shiny Mythical Pokemon for completing regional pokedexes. A complete Galar Pokedex, for instance, will grant players a shiny Keldeo. This makes Pokemon Home the only way to legitimately acquire a Shiny variant of the Colt Pokemon, as Keldeo is normally Shiny-locked.

While Pokemon GO already offers medals through completing in-game achievements, the Pokemon Home medals add another layer to the collecting experience. The number of medals you can hold depends on your Pokemon Home plan. Free users get limited slots, while premium subscribers enjoy more space for their growing collections.

All Pokemon Home users are getting a starting gift of three free medals. The feature is exclusive to the mobile version, adding an extra incentive to use the app while attending events.

With Pokemon GO Fest in June and the Pokemon World Championships in August on the horizon, trainers have potential opportunities to obtain and trade medals. It remains to be seen how much traction this feature will get in the Pokemon community, but it certainly adds a unique element of real-world engagement.
