PS5 Adds Apple Pay Support: A Secure and Convenient Way to Buy Games
Great news for PlayStation gamers with iPhones! Sony has quietly rolled out Apple Pay support for PS Store purchases on the PS5. This new payment option offers a potentially more secure and convenient way to buy digital games and content directly from your console.
Previously, PS5 users could utilize saved credit/debit cards or PayPal for transactions. Now, Apple Pay joins the ranks, offering an alternative for those already integrated into the Apple ecosystem. According to 9to5Mac and other sources, the integration utilizes the QR code system introduced with iOS 18. This means users will scan a unique code displayed on their TV screen with their iPhone or iPad to initiate and authenticate the payment.

How it works:
The process is straightforward. When finalizing a purchase on the PS5 PlayStation Store, users select Apple Pay as their payment method. A QR code then appears on the screen. Scanning this code with an iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 18 or later opens the Apple Pay interface, allowing users to choose their preferred card and authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID.
Benefits of using Apple Pay on PS5:
- Security: The extra layer of authentication via Face ID or Touch ID may provide a higher level of security compared to saving card details directly on the PSN (PlayStation Network).
- Convenience: For Apple users, paying with Apple Pay is a familiar and streamlined process.
- Apple Card Rewards: Apple Card users can earn 2% Daily Cash back on PS5 purchases made through Apple Pay.

While not as lightning-fast as one-click purchases with saved card information, the added security and potential rewards make Apple Pay a welcome addition to the PS5's payment options. There's also speculation that Apple Pay support may be coming to the PS4 with a future software update, further expanding its availability.
