Samsung Accelerates One UI 7 Rollout: Galaxy S22, S23, Fold 5 & More Get the Android 15 Update
Samsung is on a roll, pushing out the One UI 7 update (based on Android 15) to a wider range of devices faster than anticipated. If you're a Galaxy phone owner, now's the time to check for updates! The latest devices to join the upgrade party include the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Initially, the update for the Galaxy S22 lineup (S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra) began rolling out in South Korea. Users in Korea can download the 4.4GB update through the Settings > Software update menu. This update also includes the latest security patch. It's expected to expand to other countries soon, so keep an eye out.
Not long after, users in the United States reported seeing the update deployed to their Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 devices. According to reports, Verizon units are starting to get updated, which hopefully means that unlocked models and other carrier versions will be soon on their way to updating as well.

What's New in One UI 7? This is a significant update, bringing changes to the user experience. Expect features such as the Now Bar (a live notification for media playback and timers), smoother animations, a customizable quick panel, lock screen widgets, and an intuitive new camera interface. The Galaxy S23 series users are in for the aforementioned UI features as well as improvements to home screen, sharing, as well as several new AI and Gemini features.
While full details for all devices aren't available, it's unlikely the older Galaxy S22 series will receive all the AI features found in the newer Galaxy S25 lineup. This echoes a similar situation last year with the Galaxy S21 missing out on the Galaxy AI features introduced with One UI 6.1 on the Galaxy S24.
A Word of Caution: Update Your Apps! Along with the OS update, remember to update your apps after the installation. This ensures seamless integration with the new OS, bug fixes, and important security improvements. Don't forget to check both the Google Play Store and the Samsung Galaxy Store for updates to your installed Google and Samsung apps.
Google SafetyCore Content Scanning Controversy: One recent background update is Google's SafetyCore app, which scans images for nudity in Google Messages, enabled by default for minors. While this feature runs on-device and doesn't share data with Google, users concerned about privacy can disable or uninstall SafetyCore, although it may be reinstalled with future Play Services updates. Be sure to check back regularly.
Android 16 on the Horizon: While you're enjoying Android 15 on your Galaxy device, Google's already working on Android 16, with a stable release expected in the summer. The question now is: how much longer will Samsung owners behind Pixels for the upgrade? If you have a Galaxy S25 you should certainly expect a fast update.
