Samsung Galaxy Phones to Get VoLTE Enabled by Default with One UI 7: A Key Calling Feature Upgrade
Samsung is partnering with the GSMA to enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE) by default on all Galaxy phones running One UI 7, based on Android 15. This crucial update simplifies the user experience and ensures compatibility with modern networks as 3G services are phased out across the globe. This change impacts even the recently launched Galaxy S25 series, which will now have VoLTE enabled out-of-the-box where supported.
Why is this important?
VoLTE allows traditional phone calls to be routed over 4G LTE networks, offering several advantages:
- Future-proofing: As carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile have already shut down their 3G networks, VoLTE becomes essential for making and receiving conventional phone calls.
- Simultaneous Data and Voice: VoLTE enables users to make calls and use data at the same time.
- Improved Call Quality: It supports lower latencies and higher call quality thanks to the HD Voice codec.
Previously, Samsung Galaxy users had to manually enable VoLTE in their phone's settings. This change eliminates that hassle, offering a seamless experience. However, some users have reported issues with VoLTE availability due to carrier or regional restrictions. This update aims to resolve this issue for most Samsung owners.

According to the GSMA, the Network Settings Exchange (NSX) plays a vital role in this upgrade. NSX is a centralized platform that helps streamline network settings from operators to device manufacturers. Samsung's alignment with GSMA ensures "consistent and reliable voice services across a wide range of operators and regions by default."
Justin Jun, Head of Quality, Head of Group UK at Samsung Electronics, stated, "Our collaboration with GSMA has strengthened Samsung’s VoLTE compatibility, enabling more stable and seamless voice services across networks and regions."
Sianne Ryder, General Manager, Services at the GSMA, added, "As more and more countries phase out 2G and 3G networks to repurpose spectrum for 5G, it is essential to ensure that voice services continue to function seamlessly."

This move underscores Samsung's commitment to providing a superior user experience, enhancing call quality, and ensuring that its devices remain functional in the evolving landscape of mobile networks.
