Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Hits US Market: A Closer Look at the Flagship Contender

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is now officially available for purchase in the United States, marking the next chapter in Samsung's flagship smartphone lineup. Following its initial launch in South Korea, the device is making its way to US consumers via carriers, retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, and Samsung's own website.

Available in sleek black, blue, and silver finishes, the Galaxy S25 Edge comes in two configurations: 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage, priced at $1,099.99, and a 12GB/512GB variant for $1,219.99. But how does it stack up against its sibling, the S25 Ultra?

Under the hood, the Galaxy S25 Edge boasts the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, coupled with a vibrant 6.7" 120Hz 1,440p LTPO AMOLED display. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 200MP primary camera, while the 3,900 mAh battery with 25W charging ensures decent battery life within a remarkably slim 5.8mm body that weighs only 163g.

However, the Galaxy S25 Edge faces stiff competition from within its own family. A recent photo face-off between the S25 Edge and the Galaxy S25 Ultra pitted the two devices against each other in a series of camera tests.

While the S25 Edge's main camera performance was found to be comparable to the S25 Ultra, the absence of a dedicated telephoto lens on the Edge is a notable difference. The S25 Ultra boasts two telephoto lenses (10MP with 3x optical zoom and 50MP with 5x optical zoom) that complement its 200MP main sensor and 50MP ultrawide lens. Specifically, the S25 Ultra's telephoto performance allows for more detail and definition when capturing subjects from a distance.

In ultrawide shots, the S25 Edge arguably has the edge. Despite technically being at a disadvantage with its 12MP ultrawide camera (compared to the S25 Ultra's 50MP ultrawide), the Edge demonstrated a slightly wider field of view.

Ultimately, while the Galaxy S25 Edge holds its own as a capable smartphone, the addition of the telephoto lenses in the Galaxy S25 Ultra gives it an edge when it comes to camera versatility. Is the $200 price difference justified solely by the S25 Ultra's telephoto capabilities? That's a question consumers will need to consider.

With its impressive display, powerful processor, and high-resolution camera, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is undoubtedly a compelling option for those seeking a premium smartphone experience. But the rivalry with S25 Ultra makes the competition more fierce. What are your thoughts on the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge? Share your comments below!
