Samsung One UI 8 Beta Kicks Off: Galaxy S25 Series First in Line for AI-Powered Upgrade

Samsung has officially launched the One UI 8 beta program, bringing a new era of software intelligence to its Galaxy devices. This first-generation upgrade, based on Android 16, is initially available for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in select countries.

One UI 8 promises to enhance existing AI features, offering a more personalized and intuitive user experience. It leverages multimodal capabilities, tailoring the UX to different device form factors, and providing proactive suggestions based on user context.

One of the standout features is the enhanced Secure Folder with a new "Hide Secure Folder" button, effectively acting as a kill switch for your private digital life. "When hidden, apps and data stored in Secure Folder are encrypted," reports Android Police, adding that all apps within the folder will stop working and notifications will cease until the folder is unhidden and decrypted.

This addition aims to provide an extra layer of security and privacy, especially useful when others might be using your phone. It also separates biometric security for Secure Folder, ensuring that even if someone else has fingerprint access to the phone, they won't be able to access the private Secure Folder.

Other notable enhancements include:

  • Personalized AI: Intelligent multimodality for seamless communication with AI, understanding user context and needs.
  • Enhanced Everyday Convenience: Auracast support for effortless audio connection via QR code scanning and sharing.
  • Redesigned Reminder app: More intuitive features for travel planning and sharing to-do lists.
  • Refreshed Quick Share: Simplified file sharing between Galaxy devices with a single tap.

Samsung emphasizes its collaboration with Google, aiming for a faster and more stable rollout compared to previous updates. The company is reportedly targeting a summer 2025 stable release, potentially arriving as early as July.

However, the initial beta program sign-ups in the U.S. filled up quickly, leaving many eager users waiting for the next beta phase. Availability and participation limitations have been noted.

The One UI 8 beta program marks a significant step towards a more intelligent and secure mobile experience for Galaxy users. Will this update truly redefine user expectations for future releases? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below.
