Samsung’s One UI 8 Beta Arrives: Galaxy S25 Series Gets First Taste of Android 16 & Enhanced AI

Samsung is making waves with the launch of its One UI 8 beta program, giving Galaxy S25 series users an early glimpse into the future of Android. Based on Android 16, One UI 8 promises a host of improvements, particularly in the realm of AI-driven features and optimized user experience.

The beta program is currently available for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in select markets, including the US, UK, Germany and South Korea. Notably, the S25 Edge is excluded from this initial rollout.

AI is front and center in this update. While specific details remain somewhat vague, Samsung emphasizes improved multimodal capabilities and greater personalization. Expect faster AI Select functionality with reduced start-up delays. One UI 8 is optimized to “unique form factors across the Galaxy product portfolio.” Samsung and Google worked closely together when building this software.

This hints at enhanced performance and user experience on foldable devices and tablets, echoing Google's commitment to optimizing Android for diverse screen sizes. One potential improvement is a new split-screen option, allowing users to partially move one app off-screen, similar to multitasking features found on the OnePlus Open.

Beyond AI enhancements, One UI 8 brings several user-friendly updates. The Reminder app receives a layout overhaul for easier organization and sharing of to-do lists.Quick Share gets a simplified interface, while Android 16's Auracast support facilitates seamless audio streaming to compatible devices like hearing aids and the Galaxy Buds 3.

According to Samsung the beta program is accessible through the Samsung Members app. The full One UI 8 launch is expected this summer, coinciding with the release of Samsung's next-generation foldable phones like the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.

Samsung bills this launch as the start of a “new rhythm for Samsung’s software evolution with major UX and AI updates.” This statement is promising for those who felt that it took a long time for One UI 7 to get to most devices.

One UI 8 looks to be more than just an update; it is built for Samsung's latest foldable, Galaxy phones, and brings both UX and AI upgrades at the same time. Key areas highlighted include enhancing AI features, seamless inter-device communication, and robust security measures. A dedicated, robust security system combines a dedicated secure processor with secure memory that isolate sensitive data.
