Shazam’s New ‘Viral Chart’ on Apple Music: Discover Trending Music Daily

Apple has quietly rolled out a fun and engaging new feature, leveraging the power of Shazam to help you discover the hottest trending music. It's called Viral Chart, and it's available now on Apple Music.

This new playlist automatically aggregates the 50 most Shazam'd songs globally each day. The concept is simple: if people are actively searching for a song using Shazam, it's likely blowing up in popularity. The Viral Chart captures this data, giving you a real-time snapshot of what's trending across various platforms and real-world scenarios.

According to Apple, the Viral Chart isn't just about TikTok hits; it reflects a broad spectrum of trending songs. This playlist captures songs gaining traction through streaming services, social media, TV shows, or even those classic tunes experiencing a sudden resurgence at bars and sporting events. It's a diverse mix, offering something for everyone looking to stay ahead of the curve.

David Emery from Apple Music in the UK highlighted on Threads that the charts reflect songs going viral on Shazam in "real time" and ranks them based on "their weekly growth in Shazam volume".

Umar Shakir, a news writer at The Verge notes, Apple is launching a new global Viral Chart playlist in Apple Music that consists of tracks people are discovering through the company’s Shazam service. The playlist shows the top 50 songs people have heard and logged through Shazam.

Tucker Bowe from Gear Patrol points out that unlike a prior Shazam feature that auto-synced discovered songs to Spotify or Apple Music, this new Viral Chart is exclusive to Apple Music subscribers.

You can access the Viral Chart playlist directly within the Apple Music app on any Apple device, not just iPhones. If you can't find it on your home page, simply search for "Viral Chart" and add it to your library. Alternatively, you can also find the playlist through Shazam's app or website.

Shazam Viral Chart Feature 2

Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, and has since deeply integrated it into its ecosystem. Shazam now powers the Music Recognition feature across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, and you can access it through Control Center, Siri, or even the Action button on recent iPhone models.

The Viral Chart offers more than just a list of popular songs; it provides insight into global music trends and the various ways people discover new music.
