SilverStone FLP02: Retro PC Case Turns Back Time with Modern Features

Remember the beige PC towers of the late 80s and early 90s? SilverStone is bringing back that nostalgic feel with its new FLP02 PC case. Following the success of their first retro-inspired case, the FLP01, SilverStone unveiled the FLP02 at Computex, and it's already turning heads.

The FLP02 evokes memories of the 486 and early Pentium era, complete with a Turbo button. But don't be fooled by its vintage appearance. While the original Turbo button controlled processor speed, this one manages fan speed. A locking power switch, another nod to older PCs, prevents accidental shutdowns.

Despite its retro charm, the FLP02 is designed for modern components. Hidden behind a magnetic door on the front panel are USB-A and USB-C ports. Faux 5.25-inch floppy drive bays conceal space for optical drives or additional front I/O.

Inside, the case offers ample space. It accommodates full-size ATX motherboards and supports up to a 360mm radiator for CPU cooling. Even high-end graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 5090 or 5080 should fit comfortably. A built-in stand ensures that hefty GPUs don't sag.

One clever touch is the repurposing of the Turbo button to cycle through fan-speed settings, indicated by a red segmented display. The front panel key locks the power button, just like on old PCs.

While the FLP02 features dummy 5.25-inch floppy fascias, these can be replaced with actual drives. This thoughtful design addresses the needs of enthusiasts who require these features for optical drives, removable drives, or front-mounted I/O.

SilverStone plans to release the FLP02 in Q3 or Q4 of this year, with an estimated price of $220 in the US. While a modern case can be cheaper, the FLP02 caters to those seeking a nostalgic experience. The demand for the FLP01 was high, so SilverStone is planning on manufacturing plenty of FLP02 cases.

The SilverStone FLP02 is more than just a PC case; it's a time machine for your desktop. Will you be building your next PC in this nostalgic box?
