Singer Unveils the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined: A Blast from the ’80s with Modern Tech

Singer Vehicle Design has once again captivated the automotive world with its latest creation: the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer. Inspired by the rare wide-body variants of the 1980s, this restomod seamlessly blends classic Porsche design with cutting-edge technology. But is it just a restoration, or something more?

The new model is built around the original Type 964 monocoque, strengthened in consultation with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. This ensures the chassis can handle the significant power upgrade. The exterior boasts a stunning carbon fiber body, available with or without the iconic whale tail rear wing, paying homage to the classic Carrera with Super Sport Equipment.

Under the hood, or rather, in the rear, lies a state-of-the-art, 420HP, naturally-aspirated 4.0L flat-six engine. Developed by Singer with Cosworth engineering, this powerplant features four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, water-cooled cylinder heads, and air-cooled cylinders. According to Singer boss Rob Dickinson, this engine represents the culmination of 15 years of learning and development.

The heart of the beast: Singer's reimagined engine.

To manage this power, Bosch helped develop ABS, traction control, and electronic stability control, along with selectable drive modes, a manual six-speed gearbox, and RWD. The car also features four-way, remotely adjustable dampers with electronic damping control for precise sports handling.

Inside, the cabin is fully customizable, featuring bespoke paint, leather, and material finishes. Handcrafted gauges and subtly integrated technological elements like navigation and phone connectivity complete the experience. One particularly eye-catching feature is the option for pop-up high-performance auxiliary driving lights, a retro touch that adds to the car's unique appeal.

Production of the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer will be limited to just 100 units. Owners must supply their own Type 964 for the restoration. Pricing varies depending on the specifications requested. Previous Singer DLS models have reached prices up to $2 million, so expect a similarly substantial investment for this exclusive restomod.

"In the 1980s you could order a new 911 Carrera with the pumped-up bodywork of the Turbo but powered by the company’s latest, naturally aspirated flat-six," said Dickinson. "It became known as the Carrera with Super Sport Equipment. Our services reference this car and celebrate the era with a vision for an ultimate, naturally aspirated, G-model 911, reimagined for the twenty-first century.

The Singer Porsche raises the question: Is this a respectful homage to a classic, or a step too far in reimagining automotive history? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
