Sony’s New GP-VPT3 Grip Empowers Solo Content Creators: Wireless Control Unleashed
Sony is making waves in the content creation world with its newly announced GP-VPT3 Multi-Function Shooting Grip. This isn't just another accessory; it's a redesigned tool aimed at empowering solo creators who need versatility and control while shooting. The key upgrade? A detachable wireless remote, allowing for seamless operation even when you're in front of the camera.
The new grip builds upon the functionality of its predecessor, the GP-VPT2BT, but adds significant value with its included RMT-VP2 Wireless Remote Commander. This remote connects via Bluetooth and boasts a range of up to 33 feet (10 meters), providing ample freedom for creators to position themselves and control the camera from a distance. While the older version remains available for $139.99, the GP-VPT3 comes in at $159.99, a price bump well worth it for the added wireless functionality. The remote is also sold separately for $89.99.

The GP-VPT3 is compatible with Sony's Alpha Series cameras and vlogging-focused models like the ZV-E10 II. Supporting up to 3.3 pounds (1.5 kilograms), it can handle a variety of setups, including larger lenses, as long as the balance is maintained. This makes it a valuable tool not only for vloggers but also for photographers seeking stable shots and remote control.
What can you do with the RMT-VP2 remote? Think full control at your fingertips (or, well, in your hand, even when you're *not* holding the camera). It includes a shutter button, dedicated movie record button, zoom/focus rocker, autofocus on/off button, and a customizable C1 button for frequently used functions. This breadth of control means fewer trips back to the camera, saving time and improving workflow.
Beyond the remote functionality, the GP-VPT3 offers the same versatility as its predecessors. It connects to the camera via the standard tripod mount, featuring a flexible head that tilts and swivels 360 degrees. It can be used as an ergonomic handle for one-handed shooting or unfolded into a sturdy mini-tripod for stable shots, timelapses, or self-filming. Its design also optimizes for ease of use and flexible shooting angles, accommodating cameras weighing up to 1.5 kgs.

The grip features three legs that extend transforming this accessory into a tabletop tripod. The integrated head can tilt upward 80°, downward 90°, and rotate 360° for easier positioning. Additionally, the grip is dust and moisture-resistant to suit its use with select weather-sealed cameras adding even more versatility for the content creator.
The GP-VPT3 Multi-Function Shooting Grip and RMT-VP2 Wireless Remote Commander are slated for release in June 2025. Content creators, vloggers, and photographers looking for a versatile and convenient tool should definitely keep an eye on this release. It promises to improve shooting stability, versatility, and workflow.
