Space Tech Meets Mining: Fleet Space to Unlock Arabian Mineral Riches for Ma’aden

In a groundbreaking move that blends space technology with terrestrial mining, Saudi Arabian mining giant Ma'aden has partnered with Australian-based Fleet Space Technologies. The collaboration aims to unlock the hidden mineral potential of the Arabian Shield, aligning with Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy.

Fleet Space, in a joint venture with Saudi-based Tahreez, secured a four-year contract to explore up to 12,012 square kilometers of Ma'aden's priority projects. This initiative will leverage Fleet Space's innovative ExoSphere platform, a vertically integrated system that includes low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, smart ground sensors, and advanced AI models, to provide high-resolution, real-time 3D subsurface imaging up to 7 kilometers in depth.

Bob Wilt, CEO of Ma'aden, emphasized the significance of this partnership: "This exploration contract with the Fleet Space and Tahreez JV marks the beginning of a new chapter in the future of mineral exploration – one where the latest advances in space technology, real-time geophysics, and AI converge to build the mineral supply chains of tomorrow."

The ExoSphere platform, already employed by major mining companies like Rio Tinto and Barrick Gold, offers a unique approach to mineral exploration. Its near-zero environmental impact and ability to deliver rapid, data-driven insights sets it apart from traditional methods. The system utilizes Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT), active seismic techniques, and proprietary AI-driven drill targeting, offering a comprehensive subsurface view.

Flavia Tata Nardini, co-founder and CEO of Fleet Space Technologies, highlighted the transformative nature of space-enabled exploration: "Space-enabled, real-time exploration is unlocking unprecedented speed, reach, and data quality - transforming mineral discovery into a dynamic, data intelligence-led system."

This isn't Fleet Space's first foray into innovative exploration. The company recently partnered with natural hydrogen explorer Koloma to accelerate the search for scalable green-energy gas resources globally. Furthermore, Fleet Space acquired HiSeis, a hard rock seismic technology specialist, to enhance the ExoSphere platform's subsurface imaging capabilities even further.

Looking ahead, Fleet Space has even grander ambitions. By 2026, the company plans to deploy a lunar variant of ExoSphere, dubbed SPIDER, on the Moon. This mission, in partnership with Firefly Aerospace, aims to provide a deeper understanding of the lunar subsurface, informing future lunar mission planning.

This partnership represents a significant step forward in the integration of space technology into the mining industry. By combining advanced satellite technology with AI and cutting-edge geophysical techniques, Ma'aden and Fleet Space are poised to revolutionize mineral exploration and contribute to a more sustainable and data-driven future for the global mining sector.
