Spokane Native Astronaut Anne McClain Connects with Students from the International Space Station

Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience! NASA astronaut Anne McClain, a Spokane, Washington native, is set to inspire the next generation of explorers. McClain will be speaking LIVE from the International Space Station (ISS) with students from the Mobius Discovery Center in her hometown. This event promises to be a unique opportunity for students to engage with a real-life astronaut and learn about the wonders of space exploration.

The 20-minute Earth-to-space call will be broadcast on the NASA STEM YouTube Channel, making it accessible to students and space enthusiasts around the globe. This initiative is part of NASA's broader effort to foster interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) among young people. It aims to spark their imaginations and encourage them to pursue careers in these critical fields.

The Mobius Discovery Center is hosting the event for elementary, middle, and high school students from various schools across the region, non-profit organizations, and the Kalispel Tribe. This event is designed to foster imagination among students through exploration of hands-on exhibits and science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics learning opportunities while inspiring students to consider McClain’s career path.

For over two decades, astronauts have continuously lived and worked on the ISS, conducting vital research and testing technologies that benefit life on Earth. These experiments range from studying the effects of microgravity on the human body to developing new materials and technologies. The ISS serves as a crucial platform for preparing for future missions to the Moon and, ultimately, Mars.

This event is not just about answering questions; it's about igniting a passion for discovery. By connecting students directly with an astronaut, NASA hopes to inspire the Artemis Generation of explorers and ensure the United States continues to lead in space exploration and discovery. As part of NASA’s Artemis campaign, the agency will send astronauts to the Moon to prepare for future human exploration of Mars.
