Switch 2 Collector’s Edition Sparks Controversy: Physical Copy Replaced with ‘Game-Key Card’
The upcoming launch of the Switch 2 is already generating buzz, but not all of it is positive. The latest point of contention? The Collector's Edition of RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, distributed by Limited Run Games in collaboration with Atlus and Sega.
Instead of a traditional physical game cartridge, this edition features a so-called "Game-Key Card." According to Nintendo, these cards don't contain the full game; they act as a key to download the title via the internet. This has sparked outrage among collectors, who feel they're paying a premium price for a product that isn't truly physical.

For $249.99 USD, the Collector's Edition boasts a range of extras, but the core game experience requires a download. This follows Atlus' confirmation last week that the standard physical copy of Raidou Remastered for Switch 2 would also be a game-key card release, adding fuel to the fire.
While Limited Run Games distributes the Collector's Edition, they clarify that it's "not a part of the Limited Run Games Collection" and "is not a numbered release". This suggests a potentially different approach depending on their partners.
Despite the controversy surrounding this specific release, Raidou Remastered itself is shaping up to be a significant upgrade over the original PS2 RPG. Early previews highlight totally overhauled visuals with new assets where the environment is made up of 3D models, instead of prerendered backdrops. The action combat system has also been heavily reworked, with quick access to skills and fully 3D arenas.
The question remains: Is the convenience of a Game-Key Card worth sacrificing the tangible satisfaction of owning a complete physical copy, especially for collectors? What are your thoughts on this shift in game distribution? Share your opinions in the comments below!
