Tesla’s iPhone Upgrade: Live Supercharging Stats and Robotaxi Caution Flags

Tesla is rolling out a major upgrade for iPhone users, bringing Live Update compatibility for Supercharging. This means Tesla owners with iPhones can now track their charging progress directly on their lock screen, Dynamic Island, and as drop-down notifications, even while using other apps. But that's not all – from Robotaxi launch skepticism to a compact Model Y prototype, the Tesla universe is buzzing with activity.

According to TESLARATI, the new iOS feature will display the current State of Charge (SoC), time remaining, and price of the charging session. Imagine grabbing a coffee while your Tesla charges and being able to monitor its progress with a quick glance at your phone.

To take advantage of these new Supercharging updates, users will need iOS 17.2 or newer.

While iPhone users celebrate their new Tesla integration, all eyes are on the upcoming Robotaxi launch. Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas advises caution, suggesting investors temper expectations until Tesla releases more concrete details, despite reports pointing to a tentative June 12th launch date in Austin. Jonas believes Tesla needs to provide more information before investors get too excited saying that investors should “keep expectations well contained”. This contrasts with a more optimistic view from Wedbush’s Dan Ives, who sees Tesla entering a “golden age of autonomous.”

Amidst the Robotaxi anticipation, a compact Model Y prototype was spotted at Tesla's Fremont Factory. A YouTube flyover by Met God in the Wilderness revealed a shorter, more compact Model Y being tested, trailed by a Cybertruck.

While the bumpers were covered, the vehicle's smaller size suggests this could be the rumored affordable Tesla model which Tesla is on track to release in the first half of 2025, something Tesla hinted at stating that the affordable model would be of the same form and factor as the Model Y during the last Earnings Call, according to Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy.

Separately, SpaceX continues its Starship tests, facing FAA scrutiny after the ninth test flight. The FAA said the mishap investigation is focused only on the loss of the Starship vehicle.

From enhanced iPhone integration to Robotaxi skepticism and a potential affordable model sighting, Tesla remains a company that never fails to generate buzz. What are your thoughts on Tesla's latest developments? Share your opinions in the comments below!
