Unlock the Secrets: Mastering the Duchess and Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign, the new roguelike action RPG, has captivated players with its fast-paced gameplay and intricate character archetypes. Among these, the Duchess and Revenant stand out as secret Nightfarer classes, offering unique playstyles and strategic advantages. Unlocking them, however, requires more than just brute force – it demands exploration, puzzle-solving, and a keen understanding of the game's mechanics.

The initial release of Nightreign features six Nightfarers, but veterans and newcomers alike quickly sought to expand their roster with the elusive Duchess and Revenant. These characters not only add depth to team composition but also introduce intriguing lore and gameplay mechanics. Here’s how to add them to your team.

Unlocking the Duchess: A Priestess's Revelation

Obtaining the Duchess involves a quest that begins after completing your first Tricephalos expedition. This rewards you with the Old Pocketwatch, a special green relic. This isn’t just a trinket; this item unlocks the first secret class.

Take the Old Pocketwatch to the Priestess in the Roundtable Hold. A cutscene will reveal the Priestess as the Duchess herself, finally stepping out of the shadows to join the fight. The Duchess is described as a dexterous attacker, excelling at evasion and inflicting damage. Her passive ability, Magnificent Poise, allows for consecutive dodges, conserving stamina. Her Restage character skill “replays” damage occurrences which lets you keep your DPS up while waiting for other resources like stamina to regenerate and her ultimate, Finale, grants invisibility to you and your allies.

Unlocking the Revenant: A Spirit's Summons

The journey to unlock the Revenant is a bit more intricate. First, you’ll need the Besmirched Frame, available at the Jar Bazaar, after unlocking the Duchess, for 1,500 Murk. Once acquired, a Lost Phantom (denoted by a girl's portrait on your map) appears in the Roundtable Hold's east hallway.

Interacting with this phantom warps you to the plateau where you faced Margit the Fell Omen in the tutorial. This time, a unique boss, the Night Idol, awaits. This boss fight requires you to defeat Helen, Frederick and Sebastian before focusing on the Night Idol boss using your action skills.

Defeating the Night Idol unlocks the Revenant, a magically inclined character, one who boasts a high focus point (mana) pool and a diverse range of abilities. The Revenant's passive ability summons spirit allies. Summon Spirit skill allows her to call Helen, Frederick or Sebastian in battle.

Mastering the Duchess and Revenant: Builds, Tips, and Strategies

Once you've unlocked these characters, the next step is mastering their unique playstyles. The Duchess, with her dexterity and intelligence scaling, excels with daggers, bows, and sorceries. Her Restage ability is a game-changer, repeating damage dealt by both the Duchess and her co-op companions.

The Revenant, on the other hand, is a high-risk, high-reward character, relying on magic and summoned spirits. Her ability to become briefly immortal, combined with her summons, can shift the tide of battle.

With a full stable of Nightfarers, taking the fight to the Nightlord becomes easier than ever, but mastering these new characters takes time and experimentation. Whether you favor the Duchess’s swift strikes or the Revenant’s mystical control, these characters offer exciting new avenues to explore in Elden Ring Nightreign.
