Windows 11 Gets Smarter: AI-Powered Search, ‘Hey, Copilot!’ and More New Features

Microsoft is rolling out a wave of exciting updates for Windows 11, enhancing user experience with AI-driven improvements and convenient voice activation. These changes promise to make your PC interactions more intuitive and efficient. Let's dive into what's new.

One of the most significant additions is the integration of AI-powered search. With the KB5058411 update, Windows Search now understands "natural language" queries, allowing you to find documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images using everyday language. No more struggling with precise keywords! This feature enhances productivity by streamlining the search process.

Microsoft is also testing a hands-free experience with the introduction of "Hey, Copilot!". Select Windows Insiders can now initiate Copilot Voice conversations simply by saying the wake word. This feature brings Windows 11 in line with other voice-activated assistants like Siri and Alexa, offering a more natural way to interact with your PC. To see if you have it, check your Copilot app version to see if it’s 1.25051.10.0 or higher.

Beyond AI enhancements, the latest updates bring several other notable improvements. File Explorer is becoming more efficient, with faster file opening and ZIP archive unpacking. The interface has also received subtle tweaks, including darker shades of blue and green in the bars. Furthermore, Microsoft addressed user feedback by removing the blue-colored background for shortcuts on the desktop, providing a cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing experience.

The Canary channel is also seeing some exciting developments, with Insider Preview Build 27858 available. This build includes a new system tray icon for the emoji panel, improvements to File Explorer accessibility with increased support for text scaling, and fixes for various issues, including black screen problems during upgrades and explorer.exe crashes. Notably, adjustments to desktop icon logic now eliminate accent-colored backplates for packaged apps, resulting in bigger and clearer icons.
