Yale and ADT Revolutionize Home Security with Fingerprint Smart Lock Integration

Forget fumbling with keys or codes! Yale and ADT have teamed up to launch a game-changing smart lock that’s set to redefine home security. The new Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Z-Wave, integrates seamlessly with the ADT Plus security system, allowing users to disarm their security system and unlock their door with a single fingerprint touch. This innovation promises a faster, more convenient, and potentially safer entry experience.

The ADT Plus system, launched last year as a successor to Nest Secure, is benefiting from Google's $450 million investment in ADT. This collaboration highlights the evolving landscape of smart home security, where convenience and robust protection are converging. While Yale already offers locks compatible with the ADT system, this new Z-Wave enabled lock marks their first foray into fingerprint access, offering greater security to users.

What sets this lock apart is its utilization of the new Z-Wave User Credential Command Class, a more secure method for managing passwords and PIN codes within a Z-Wave network. This protocol allows the lock to communicate directly with the ADT Plus base, disarming the system upon fingerprint verification. While the lock can function as a standalone Z-Wave device, the integrated disarming feature is currently exclusive to ADT Plus.

Omar Khan, ADT EVP and Chief Business Officer, emphasized the significance of this launch, stating, "With the introduction of the User Credential Command Class and updates to ADT+, we’re not just launching a new lock—we’re redefining how security systems and smart locks work together."

Beyond fingerprint access, the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Z-Wave offers multiple unlocking methods, including keypad entry, traditional key access, and virtual key control via the ADT+ app. It also integrates with ADT Plus’s Trusted Neighbors feature, allowing authorized individuals to disarm the system using facial recognition via Google Nest security cameras.

ADT has also rolled out a major update to the ADT+ app. This update, version 3.6, introduces a redesigned interface for improved speed and fluidity, particularly with integrated Nest cameras. The update also includes support for Home and Away modes, which automate security settings based on device location and occupancy. Biometric authentication has also been added for enhanced security within the app itself, addressing previous concerns about PIN requirements.

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Z-Wave is available now on ADT.com for $279.99. Customers have the option for self-installation or professional installation by an ADT technician.

This latest advancement raises an interesting question: Will fingerprint-enabled smart locks become the new standard in home security? The combination of convenience, enhanced security, and seamless integration with existing systems certainly makes a compelling case.
